The One Thing All Customers Need & How to Provide It

I’ve been in marketing for a long time and have seen my share of ‘fluff.’ But this marketing tip is as essential as that first sip of morning coffee – and you know how seriously I take my coffee. ☕

A few weeks ago, I was running errands (a.k.a., walking through the aisles of Home Goods enjoying a Starbucks) when I overheard a cheerful associate greet a customer with, "Great to see you! How have you been?" The customer's genuine response caught me off guard: "I'm good. Thanks for recognizing me and saying hello." To which the associate replied, "Of course, I always know my regulars!"

Here’s the thing – we all want to be regulars.

Years ago, I had a business coach who told me all anyone really wants is to be seen and heard. At the time, I probably filed it under W for “woo-woo.” But she was right.

How great does it feel when you walk into your favorite coffee shop, and the barista knows your usual order before you say a word?

It feels pretty darn nice (and makes it easier to pay $7 for a latté).

That's the power of recognition. And your customers deserve to feel that same sense of belonging.

Cutting Through the Noise
In a world where everyone's shouting to be heard, your customers need a way to see through the jungle of digital chaos. Personalization is the secret sauce here. Your customers’ challenges are unique. You’re not just selling a product or service; you’re solving a problem. Talk about that problem. When you talk about your customer’s problems, they pay attention. Seriously, who doesn't love a problem solver?

Trust Us, We've Got This
Trust is the magic ingredient in any successful relationship – business or otherwise. When you feel seen, you feel valued. And when you feel valued, trust grows like the line at Starbucks on Red Cup Day.

Making your audience feel seen isn't some arcane, mystical practice. It's simple human connection dressed up in business casual attire. It's taking the time to truly know your customers, addressing them on a personal level, and speaking directly to their pain points.

In a world full of noise, be the brand that stands out by saying, "We see you, we understand you, and we've got something special just for you."
